Sriwijaya Air Flight SJ182 crashed shortly after take-off from Jakarta on January 9. The aircraft, operated by Boeing 737-500 with 62 people on board, took off at 14:36 local time and had its signal vanished from radar Flightradar24 at 14:40.
The aircraft was a regular 90 minutes’ flight from Jakarta to Pontianak in West Kalimantan province in the west of Island Borneo. Prior to take-off, the flight was delayed half an hour for heavy rains. Witnesses described they had heard an explosion.
Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) reported the Indonesian National Armed Forces and Navy divers, Police, Coast Guard were deployed to search for the wreckage and debris from the aircraft. On January 10, Indonesia President Joko Widodo offered his condolences to the crash victims who died in the incident. By the way, National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) has started to gather information about the cause of the crash.
