The 29-year-old resident Maurice P. intentionally drove his car into the crowd in Rose Carnival Parade on February 24 in the town of Volkmarsen in central Germany. Authorities announced the victims were at least 61, 18 were children, who suffered the injury on the rampage and 35 people still remained in the hospital for treatment.
The General Prosecutor General's Office in Frankfurt announced that the suspect was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide and aggravated assault. As the police were unable to question the suspect, the motive behind his attack was still unclear at the moment. A court in Kassel has ordered the accused suspect to be remanded in custody.
Rose Monday, locally known as Rosenmontag, is the highlight of the German Carnival (Karneval) and is celebrated in countries including Austria, Belgium, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. There was no evidence that the car attack incident that disrupted Volkmarsen's Rose Monday Carnival Parade was politically related.
