Recently, the American Medical Association (AMA) has released a statement to alter the inequality in health fields initiated by racism. Racism is the issue that has been a historically systematical and structural threat to create inequality. Racism produces a negative influence on certain groups of people, especially for Black, indigenous and people of color in the United States and the world.

This association AMA comprises thousands of professional doctors and they are committed to developing concrete principles and practice to fix this racism inequality in the health industry. The AMA considered that racism is a threat to the public health and increase a health inequality in the community and this issue needs to be changed by the fundamental strategy, Willarda Edwards, an AMA board member, said in a statement.

Health experts experience health resources disproportionately during this pandemic. Some data show that minority has higher chances to contract and die from this coronavirus. In the United States, Black Americans and Hispanic American were more likely to have higher numbers dying from this coronavirus than any other ethnic groups. In the UK, a study indicated that pregnant women of color were more likely to have more confirmed cases with severe symptoms.

Since last year, many counties in the United States has defined that racism is a public health threat. At this critical moment, AMA determined to provide alternative solutions to reducing the bias caused by biology or genetics research. The ultimate goal for AMA is to create a public healthy environment with mutual trust and reconciliation.
