The capital of Iraq, Baghdad, had its snow for the first time in 100 years in 2008. It is a rare phenomenon in Baghdad and the southern part of Iraq to experience snowfall. Before sunrise on February 11, snow occurred surprisingly in Baghdad for the first time in 12 years.
Meanwhile, Iraq has been tumbled with anti-government protests since October of 2019. It was reported that the unrest so far had caused more than 500 people to die in Baghdad.
The snowfall paused briefly protesters' movement in the streets of Baghdad. People were very happy to see the snow and took selfies. Children played in parks throwing snowballs. Later by the middle of the day, the majority of the snow had melted.
