The shortcut of certain model ventilators, Aventa-M, caused a blaze in St. Petersburg, Russia. During this pandemic, ventilators should be a vital medical machine to heal coronavirus patients. In this accident, ventilators seem to be the killer to take away patients’ lives.
According to the Russian news agencies, the fire initiated at the Intensive Care Unit. The possible reason was that the overheated ventilators caused the fire, based on the early report. This accident caused the death of five patients with COVID-19. Around 150 patients were evacuated to different buildings in the St. George hospital to save their lives.
This fire incident in Russia generated the huge concern from United States. In the beginning of April, Russia sent a cargo with medical supplies, including this type of ventilators, according to the spokesman of U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). These ventilators were sent to the states including New York and New Jersey. These states were in lack of ventilators to cure coronavirus patients.
Recently, Russia’s health care regulator Roszdravnadzor released the confirmation to suspend the usage of Aventa-M. It was widely used to cure patients in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Moscow, the capital city, is the most severe area of COVID-19. According to the data of Johns Hopkins University, Russia has the second highest numbers in the world after United States. Russia’s health-care system is now under the pressure to deal with the outbreak of the coronavirus.
