On June 9th, a blowout from a damaged oil field in Assam's Tinsukia district, in north-eastern India. Managed by the Oil India Ltd (OIL), the oil well had been destroyed after a blowout on May 27th and has been gushing natural gas since then.
Two assistant operators who worked at OIL, died in the gas leak. Besides, it was reported that five people from a village near the gas well site perished, due to the venomous gas-induced poison. However, the reason for their death is under investigating, though the preliminary investigation showed they died of natural causes.
The government set up an exclusion zone of 1.5 kilometers and around 2,500 people had escaped from their homes.
OIL India stated that around 200 engineers and workers are trying to prevent the leak in four weeks, and they also asked for the help from the expert team from Singapore, who arrived on June 8th.
