Facing fake news flooding everywhere, British Education Ministry is proposing to teach primary and secondary school students “to differentiate between misinformation and disinformation.” This will be a compulsory part of the curriculum, and enable their young people to become “new-media-savvy,” so that children will take care of themselves online.

According to the Education Secretary Damian Hinds, fake news means untrue stories on social media and online or only part of them is true; disinformation is reproduced from misinformation, a false message but you believe to be true.

Experts worry that children will be influenced by fake news and not believe in anything they read. The spread of fake news is so fast that it can “destroy trust, damage learning culture, and sap curiosity,” said in the statement of British Department for Education.
