On May 12th, the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) declared that it cooperated with CanSino Biologics Inc, which has conducted human clinical trials for its coronavirus vaccine named Ad5-nCoV, to put forward bioprocessing and develop clinical potential vaccine in Canada.

Not until the vaccine received green light from Health Canada could the trial get started in Canada. Although governments all over the world are eager to have vaccines mass produced, the vaccine can be applied to the public only if the results of clinical trials are safe and efficient among thousands of human volunteers. According to the NRC, it will take 5 to 15 years to develop and mass manufacture successful vaccines in general.

Canada's funding the research council will enhance the scale of the technology for producing enough candidate vaccine to protect Canadians.

In addition, on May 12 Canada government pledged C$600 million over 5 years to support the GAVI vaccine alliance. This international organization aims to support new and underused vaccinations for children all over the world as well as assist low-income countries to face the spread of coronavirus.
