Federal carbon tax of Canada took effect on April 1st, 2019.
To cut down on emissions and to slow down the effects caused by climate change, four provinces of Canada that don’t have carbon-pricing system, including New Brunswick, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan, are required to pay carbon tax according to Ottawa’s standards. Besides, the tax will increase every year and is expected to cost a typical household around $650 by 2022.
The Liberal government of Canada says that most of the money collected will become income tax rebates and be returned to Canadians. As a result, an average family of four will probably receive over $300. Nevertheless, the average gas price is likely to rise sharply.
