With the support of World Health Organization, many countries adopted a high tobacco tax policy. It decreases the consumptions of cigarettes and benefits for the population health, profit, and development.

Some countries have benefited from the high tobacco tax policy. Their tax plans might be various. However, the general benefit was reducing the consumption of cigarettes and increasing states’ income. Colombia demonstrated a positive example. After the government adopted a tobacco tax reform in 2016, officials found that the cigarettes usage decreased and revenue received to help the universal health coverage.

Around the world, only 38 countries adopted the high tobacco tax policy. At this post-COVID-19 recovery phase, Minister for Health of Oman stated tobacco taxes will serve as important revenue to help the budget of healthcare. Officials should concentrate more on this policy to benefit people’s health.
