Cyclone Nisarga hit the state of Maharashtra in India where the capital city Mumbai is located. This cyclone caused heavy rains in Mumbai of India. Fortunately, major parts of Mumbai did not hit heavily. It just brought heavy rains in some parts of the city.
City of Mumbai is considered as one of the most severe impacted areas of COVID-19 in India. Because this cyclone might hit for the longest hours in the coast of Maharashtra, thousands of people in Mumbai, including patients of COVID-19, were evacuated. Up to now, more than 6,000 people have died of COVID-19.
Due to the warning of tide, people of Mumbai were banned to go to public areas, including beaches and parks. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharah International Airport had a flight operation suspension because a Fed-X plane deviated from the runway.
According to the report of state disaster management secretary Kishor Nimbalkar, two people and one boy were killed by fallen electric poles and trees in the district of Raigad.
No major damages or deaths were reported in Mumbai even though the gusty winds whipped skyscrapers. The major reason for less major damages or deaths was the early evacuation. The local official government in Maharashtra and neighboring Gujarat state evacuated around 10,000 people before the storm.
The previous Cyclone Amphan caused more severe injured and death. It killed more than 100 people in India and Bangladesh.
