Chinese media on January 28 reported the latest death toll from the new Coronavirus had reached 106 with 4,516 confirmed infected cases. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has corrected in its situation report on the coronavirus outbreak in China to high risk at the global level.
Earlier, before the Chinese Lunar New Year, China locked down the affected region around Wuhan in Hubei province. Chinese officials enforced the biggest quarantine operation and started the construction of 2 new hospitals in Wuhan to treat virus-infected patients. China President Xi Jinping also set up a special committee to tackle the virus outbreak. China had deployed hundreds of military medics to Wuhan. On January 28 China's National Health Commission reported an additional 6,000 medical staff has been mobilized to tackle the virus outbreak in Hubei.
Widespread worldwide cases have been confirmed in Australia, Canada, Cambodia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, and the U.S. However, WHO remains confident that China can control and contain the deadly virus.
