Thousands of people took to the streets in cities throughout the US to protest George Floyd’s death, an unarmed black man killed by a police officer during an arrest in Minneapolis, Minnesota earlier on May 25.
Local officials have ordered curfews in dozens of cities and counties across the US in response to protests and destruction from demonstrators outraged over the death of George Floyd.
These protests have grown intensively and become violent clashes between protesters and police, along with looting property damage, and some local officials in at least 39 cities and counties across 21 states declared emergency curfews due to several deaths.
However, criminologists doubt about curfews, questioning their effectiveness in reducing civil unrest, and being afraid the curfews could backfire if they come into effect.
