The Drought Crisis in Chennai, India

Chennai, India's sixth largest city, has four major reservoirs that are completely dry and lacking water resources. Residents must queue for hours to acquire water from government tanks. To solve this problem, the official is not only actively drilling for new water resources, but also trying to find more water from the quarry.

Many local hotels and restaurants have been temporarily closed due to lack of water. The Chennai Metro has closed the station air-conditioning, and the office even requires employees to work at home to save water. Officials said: If the rainfall also disappoints us this year, it will be completely destroyed.

However, the drought in Chennai is not uncommon. Last year's rainfall did not meet expectations. This year, it influenced such a serious crisis, most likely a human factor. The reservoir's water storage capacity is not good, and the implementation of the project which improves saving more water encountered difficulties. Cleaning sludge work did not actually perform, which should be attributed to the ineffective work of successive governments.
