In 2021, the Dutch human rights governmental council, College voor de Rechten van de Mens, collected a record high complaints. The most of them are about coronavirus.
From collected 5286 reports, 2300 people indicated coronavirus pass leading to their discrimination. Many of them refused to get vaccinated due to their religion. However, since they couldn’t prove their refusal history to support their religious reason, their applications were deemed “unfounded.”
On the other hand, 776 were related to impairment, 575 to race, and 453 to gender. The huge difference in figures also reflected the pandemic.
40% of the council’s 739 rulings last year had no complaint grounds. Only 20% of complaints bring about rulings and a third of them involving discrimination. 90% of the council’s non-mandatory rulings can be followed.
