Eskom is one of the world's largest power utilities, supplying 90% of the supply in South Africa, Africa's most developed region.

The company produces nearly all of its electricity from coal, South Africa's abundant fuel. Over the years, however, it has also been afflicted by a number of poor management and corruption scandals that have led to its severe financial concerns.

Recently, two former managers from Eskom have been arrested for alleged corruption and fraud worth $51m USD. Because of this, two business directors and seven companies are also due in court in relation with the case.

The Special Investigations Unit of South Africa, which also examined the accusations, said that the arrests were "a great milestone in our country's fight against corruption."
