According to a research published on June 2nd, which was conducted by British government agency Public Health England (PHE), the death rate of coronavirus of the ethnic minorities in the United Kingdom is higher than that of their white British peers.

In addition, people of Bangladeshi ethnicity who tested positive for coronavirus were about twice the risk of death of white Britons, while the risk of death of people from other minority communities, including Chinese, Indian, Pakistani and Caribbean descent, is 10% to 50% higher than white Britons. In addition, black ethnic people were also more likely to be diagnosed with Covid-19.

The PHE study pointed out that the link between death rate and ethnicity was complicated, with a combination of factors, such as living areas, occupation, etc. However, UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock admitted that they still need to do some studies to figure out the key points for the results and the relationships between these risk factors, to close the gap.
