Two campaign groups, Counter Balance and the CEE Bankwatch Network, released a report about European Investment Bank (EIB). The EU-funded bank is found supporting several human rights violation projects with taxpayers’ money.

These infrastructure projects were supported by EIB in some countries. The similar projectsthreaten local communities. For example, one of the largest dams built in Georgia was a natural disaster to destroy biodiversity and the living environment.

The report condemned that the EIB did not take human rights into consideration and provide sufficient evaluation in these projects. These investments were not occurred inside Europe and not an ideal model to develop through EIB.

However, a spokesperson of EIB said that EIB shared values of human rights, environmental protection, and corruption with NGOs. In the future, they will have more open public discussion.
