French President Emmanuel Macron has announced to ban the hunting method that uses glue-covered branches to trap birds, which had been forbidden in European Union since 1979, while it has been allowed to use this technique in five administrative areas in southeastern France since 1989.

In July, The European Commission, the law enforcement organization of the EU, requested France to stop harming birds by October this year and to abide by the EU's 2009 Birds Directive.

According to the European Commission, in addition to glue, nets and traps are also legal to catch birds in France. There’re more than 32% of the bird species in EU not in good conservation status, while only 20 are well-protected amid 64 species that could be hunted in France.
