A natural gas explosion destroyed 3 row houses in Baltimore on the morning of August 10, killing a woman and trapping some people in the debris. At least 7 people were seriously injured and hospitalized, while a woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Dozens of firefighters gathered on the piles of rubble, searching for more survivors.
Baltimore Fire Department said at a news conference that the cause of the gas explosion was not clear. According to the utility's reports to federal authorities, the Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. (BGE) is subjected to suspicion. The BGE reportedly has thousands of miles of obsolete pipes that will take two decades to be replaced at the cost of US$1 billion.
Brandon Scott, President of Baltimore City Council, asked the whole residents in the city to pray for the injured or the dead, showing the basic sympathy for the victims.
