On June 17, Philonise Floyd told the UN Human Rights Council, which headquarters in Geneva, the whole world saw how his brother George Floyd was tortured and killed by US police brutality. The death of George Floyd proves that black lives do not matter in the US.
The tragic event of police brutality on May 25 in Minneapolis of Minnesota led to the brutal murder of George Floyd. Protests throughout the US proclaimed “black lives matter” and demonstrated against injustice and police brutality.
UN Human Rights chief Michelle Bachelet, a former president of Chile, criticized the gratuitous brutality of George Floyd's death. She also said the protests were the culmination of many generations of pain under systemic racism in the US.
George Floyd's brother called on UN officials to form an independent commission to investigate the deaths of African Americans in US police custody and the brutality in violence against peaceful protesters.
