Google CEO’s Promise Satisfies President Donald Trump

March27,2019

In early March, US President Donald Trump was not satisfied with Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s business in China and complained about his contributing too much to China’s military. However, on his tweet of March 27, Mr. Trump declared that Sundar Pichai reaffirmed that “he is totally committed to the U.S. military, not the Chinese military.”

General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, mentioned what “Google is doing in China is indirectly benefiting” the Chinese military. He urged US tech giants to speed up for better 5G wireless technology so that US markets wouldn’t have to rely on Chinese innovators, like telecom firm Huawei. After all, the US government doesn’t trust the Chinese government and is afraid of the opponent’s penetration into US communications, especially intellectual property.

In 2010 Google stopped cooperation with China due to a cyberhack. However, they still have big amount of business with each other. According to The Intercept, Google executives have secret "Project Dragonfly" at hand in spite of the criticism from more than 60 human rights groups and 22 U.S. lawmakers.

Anyway, Sundar Pichai’s promise on March 27 has got rid of President Donald Trump’s worry.
