Australia could face its hottest day next week as a hot air mass is heading east towards the country.
From Wednesday, it’s possible that temperatures will exceed 40C in many places, says the Meteorology Bureau (BOM).
At the outback town of Oodnadatta in South Australia, the current record of 50.7C was set on 2 January 1960.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has warned that the blistering heat will pass nationally as a cool change sweeps in on Monday.
The extreme temperature is likely to increase in parts of Western Australia next week and even affect a lot of South Australia, where Adelaide is forecast to see 40C highs from Tuesday to Wednesday, 41C on Thursday and even 42C on Friday.
