Dr. Carlos Quiroz is a Honduras doctor. Though a small country in Central America, Honduras is also a football country.
In March 2020, COVID-19 Pandemic had impacted highly in Honduras’ economy. At the beginning of COVID-19 surge, people that worked on part time jobs and hourly paid jobs relied on selling masks and alcohol sprays were required to control the pandemic.
They sold in the street and caused problems to the government’s control measures which urged people to stay home. However, it’s difficult for people to do so and thus infected cases increase day by day. In the end of May, 2800 diagnosis and 400 cases increased per day.
The products to control the pandemic were sold out, and people were not allowed to sell them. So, they couldn’t help but change their businesses by offering different types of products and services, such as car washing, for living.
During this time Dr. Quiroz was working as a doctor and a master of research in Healthcare administration. He took care of his family to keep them safe and helped people in need. He was trained in a better way to control the spread of the disease and protect people, including his family, around him.
During the pandemic time, working as a doctor is not easy for Dr. Quiroz.
Most of time, hospitals were overrun with worried people.
“When we didn’t have medicine or enough spaces for patients, we had to ask them to search for private medical attentions,” said Dr. Quiroz. “If they couldn’t afford for them, they would be upset and blamed medical staff.”
When that happened repeatedly to patient, medical staff felt patients’ anger and pressure. To overcome the difficulties, Dr. Quiroz learned to manage it with Conscience.
He meditated and put himself on patients’ feet to understand their worries and concern. He decided to change his mind into positive side by leading them with more options and better recommendations on a daily basis.
Most of the time, Dr. Quiroz recommended his patients to follow the 3 don’ts, which are not to lose one’s temper, not to worry when one is well prepared, or not to be anxious when one understands what is happening.
And follow 5 Dos to prevent the coronavirus. The 5 Dos are to wash one’s hand frequently every day, to drink more warm water, to keep the toxins out of one’s body, to do more exercise and to get more sunlight to against the disease
He further suggested his patients find positive message even if time’s not good enough. This way, one can be happy and smile all the time. Other than this, one still needs to be careful and pay more attention to disease transmission and preventive measures.
Right now, during the pandemic, many people have high levels of anxiety and mental issues in Honduras. That even causes some pharmacies running out of treatment for the type of disease.
That’s all Dr. Quiroz’s first recommendations for his patients, to keep them calm, stay positive, find the balance in life and keep anxiety under control.
