Hurricane Ida Kills at Least 45 in the Northeast of America

Until September 2nd, at least 45 people died of the remnants of Hurricane Ida, which released copious rainfalls, flash floods and tornadoes to the Northeast of America, mainly influencing the states of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

 

At least 23 people were killed in New Jersey; most of them were trapped in vehicles by floodwater. While at least 13 died in New York City, including 11 people died in basements of their residential homes.

 

U.S. President Joe Biden announced in the evening of September 2nd that the states of New Jersey and New York were in times of emergency, and commanded federal assistance to complement local response efforts.
