Amid massive chaos in China stirred up by the COVID-19 pandemic, ice creams manufactured from Tianjin Daqiaodao Food were reportedly tested positive on January 12 and 13 by China's municipal authorities for being contaminated with the coronavirus.

Tianjin's Municipal Center for Disease Control has found the coronavirus in 3 sample ice creams and immediately sealed all products made by Tianjin Daqiaodao Food. According to preliminary epidemiological investigation, the contamination has been traced to raw materials used in making ice cream. The company has contamination from milk powder imported from New Zealand and whey mist imported from Ukraine.

Meanwhile, 1,662 employees were placed under quarantine and put through nucleic acid testing. As of January 14, 700 people have been tested negative for COVID-19. Tianjin's municipal authorities have also taken measures to disinfect the company's environment, quarantine close contacts, and trace back the ice creams that were sold. The company had produced 4,836 boxes of ice cream in the contaminated batch in which 1,812 boxes were sold to other provinces in China. However, China's authorities are able to fetch back and seal up 2,089 boxes of ice cream so far.
