On March 15, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi organized a conference with other leaders of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) on tackling the COVID-19 pandemic. The SAARC emergency fund was launched accordingly under a collaborative regional initiative to help combat the Coronavirus.
Up to now, Bangladesh has confirmed more than 5,000 infection cases and 140 death tolls in COVID-19. Under the SAARC initiative, on April 26 India contributed 100,000 antimalarial tablets (hydroxychloroquine, HCQ) and 50,000 sterile surgical latex gloves to Bangladesh’s healthcare professionals to stop the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier on March 25, India had given 30,000 surgical headcovers and 30,000 surgical masks to Bangladesh. Bangladesh’s Health Minister Zahid Maleque publicly appreciated the continuous support from neighboring India in this distressful time.
