After China, US president Donald Trump has been increasing trade tension at its allies, and India is one of them. Last Friday, the White House removed India from special trade status, the same day of Mr. Modi’s second term as prime minister.

According to US Congressional Research Service, India has over $6 billion customs duty exemptions in 2018. And, Mr. Trump wanted India to “provide equitable and reasonable access to its markets."

The Indian Commerce and Industry Ministry was looking for “a mutually acceptable way forward” at the weekend by series of meeting with officials. Meanwhile, India is to increase support to impacted sectors by the US government's decision.
