INTERPOL Arrests Three Nigerians for Carrying out Cybercrime in over 150 Countries

The International Police Organization (INTERPOL) has published a statement on November 25th, pointing out that 3 Nigerians have been arrested. According to the joint cybercrime investigation composed of INTERPOL, Group-IB and the Nigeria Police Force, the three suspects were believed to be members of a crime group who have been carrying out cybercrime, such as distributing malware, conducting phishing campaigns and business email compromise (BEC) scams.

 

Global security company, Group-IB stated that the cybercrime group has compromised government and companies in more than 150 countries, with at least 50,000 victims in just three years.

 

The number of cybercrime cases among Nigerians has increased, both within and outside the country. In addition to the case above, about 80 Nigerians in the US were arrested in 2019 for involving $46 million internet scam, and 6 Nigerians were charged for swindling $6M from Americans in the mid of this year.
