Israeli health officials will start providing a third shot of Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine with people aged over 60, which is the first efforts to retard the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant among the world.
According to Albert Bourla, CEO of Pfizer, the effectiveness of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine declines to approximately 84% for people who vaccinated around four to six months after second dose. However, based on a new report from Israeli Health Ministry, the effectiveness of Pfizer and BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine is only 39% in the country.
Prime Minister of Israel, Naftali Bennett, the one who launched this campaign, confirmed President Isaac Herzog was the first to receive the booster on July 30th.
However, the US Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization don’t suggest boosting Covid vaccine shots currently, due to lack of research and data.
