Significant climate changes due to global warming have been urgently threatening Australia with disastrous weather events in the past 4 years, including bushfires, cyclones, drought, and floods. Most recently, Australia’s weather channels reported freezing winter conditions swept across three south-eastern states where some areas in New South Wales received up to 5 inches of snow as well as strong winds of up to 70 mph a few days ago.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, this is one of the coldest outbreaks to hit Australia in recent years. The severe winter storm disrupted airline flights in cancellation and led to road closures outside of Sydney. An Australian football match in the capital Canberra was reportedly played in the snow for the first time. The rare snowfall also made more than 10,000 homes in the southeastern states suffer an electrical shutdown.
Meanwhile, many people filmed and shared rare scenes of Australian kangaroos hopping through the snow on Twitter. Many Twitter users have shared videos of kangaroos leaping in snowy plains, jumping on a golf course, bouncing through the snow in a front yard and at a park respectively.
