A 27-year-old suspect has been arrested on suspicion of murder after one person died and 7 others were injured in stabbings across American Birmingham city on September 6. U.S. West Midlands Police arrested the suspect at a dead-end street in Selly Oak. Meanwhile, he was related to 7 counts of attempted murder.
The attacks happened at four Birmingham locations over a 90-minute rampage. Police officers were first called out at 00:30 on September 6 at Constitution Hill where a male victim sustained a superficial injury. Then, 20 minutes later, they were called to Livery Street near Snow Hill railway station where a 19-year-old man was critically injured and a woman was hurt. At 01:50, police were sent to Irving Street where a 23-year-old man suffered fatal injuries and another man was seriously hurt. Ten minutes later, they were called to Hurst Street in Gay Village where a 32-year-old woman was critically injured and 2 men were less badly hurt.
Police said no evidence of hate crime and no suggesting of the random stabbings were gang or terror-related. Birmingham Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Steve Graham, stated police officers had worked hard to hunt down the suspect they believed responsible for these terrible crimes. In addition, the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, David Jamieson, mentioned police would be working with the city council to take any further measures in the city center following the stabbing sprees.
