Facing thousands of upset customers’ complaining the new paper straws, McDonald’s suggests them to throw away the eco-friendly straws as general waste before the fast food giant has a solution.

McDonald’s has been using paper straws of recyclable material to swap recyclable plastic ones in its all 1,361 branches throughout the UK and Ireland since last September.

In the UK, the restaurant chain drops 1.8 million straws a day. It makes the policy important and meaningful to move the plastic straws away.

However, McDonald’s waste solution providers pointed out that the thickness of paper straws is hard to process, said in the statement of the fast food giant.

Though customers could just sip from the cup without straws, there is a petition requests to have the plastic straws back. Currently, more than 51,000 customers have signed.

In addition, some McDonald’s fans who dislike the new paper straws are selling and buying bundles of McDonald’s plastic straws on eBay.
