There are 971 measles cases confirmed in 26 U.S. states in the first five months of 2019, reported the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Thursday. It is 8 more cases than in the whole year of 1994 and 60 cases increased in last week. This is a new record reported in the U.S. since 1994, though their health officials declared the virus was eliminated in 2000.
According to CDC, the spread of Measles is due to the majority of people were unvaccinated. In New York City, most of 550 confirmed measles cases since last September are among unvaccinated children. The City Health Commissioner ordered every adult and child who lives, works or stays in 4 of listed ZIP codes in Brooklyn to be vaccinated after April 9, or otherwise can be fined USD$1,000.
Measles is still often seen in many countries. The eruption is also carried by visitors with measles from Israel, Ukraine, and the Philippines, where measles is taking place, stated CDC officials.
