According to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Russia's war in Ukraine has displaced 4.3 million children in the past month, accounting for more than half of the country's projected 7.5 million child population. This figure, according to UNICEF, includes around 2.5 million children who are now internally displaced within Ukraine, as well as more than 1.8 million who have fled into neighboring countries as refugees.
Since the start of the war on February 24, the World Health Organization (WHO) has reported 52 attacks on health-care facilities across the country. Approximately 1.4 million people do not have access to safe drinking water, while 4.6 million have restricted access or are at risk of losing it. Over 450,000 youngsters aged 6 to 23 months need food relief.
Catherine M. Russell, the Executive Director of UNICEF, is concerned that the prolonged destruction in Ukraine has resulted in a child rights crisis that could last generations. Ukraine’s children urgently need peace and protection.
