A 2-week quarantine period for anyone arriving in the UK has been enforced from June 8. The new quarantine rules include:
(1)Passengers regardless of nationals arriving in the UK by ferry, plane or train will be asked to provide an address for self-isolation for 14 days. Any traveler failing to fill in a form with these details, according to the new quarantine rules, can be fined £100.
(2) Whether travelers are following the new quarantine rules will be checked by surprise visits. Failing to self-isolate for 14 days in England could be fined up to £1,000.
(3) Travelers ought to reach their destination by driving their own vehicles. Otherwise, travelers have to spend their own money to live somewhere under the government’s arrangement.
(4) Once at their destination travelers are not allowed to use public transportation including taxis. They must not go to public areas, school, or work. They cannot have visitors unless they need essential support.
(5) Travelers are not allowed to go out to buy food. If they need other essentials, they can ask others for help.
(6) Employers should make future work arrangements for the staff prior to their international travel. Employees returning from overseas can not ask for statutory sick pay unless they have the required conditions, such as coronavirus symptoms.
Travelers from the Common Travel Area (CTA)-the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands, or the Isle of Man-can be exempt from quarantine under the condition that they have stayed in the CTA for at least 14 days.
The UK quarantine reportedly could be lifted in July for holidays to Europe. Meanwhile, the government is looking into “international travel corridors” between the UK and countries where they have strong healthcare systems and low infection rates. In this way, travelers between the two can be free of quarantine.
