The Bourbon Street pickup truck attack on New Year's Eve, which took place early on January 1, killed at least 15 people and injured many more. New Orleans police shot and killed a suspect in the Bourbon Street pickup truck attack.
The New Year's Day shooter in New Orleans acted alone, the FBI revealed on January 2, describing the heinous assault as "an act of terrorism." There does not appear to be any indication of accomplices. A man drove a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing 15 people and injuring others.
The FBI reported that the attacker had hidden explosives in ice coolers in the French Quarter just hours before the incident. One improvised explosive device (IED) was planted at the intersection of Bourbon and Orleans streets, with a second two blocks distant in the French Quarter.
The vehicle was an electric white Ford pickup truck. Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, a U.S. Army veteran from Texas, was identified as the attacker. Jabbar rented the truck on December 30th, while staying in the Houston region, before traveling to New Orleans.
