In Greece, Orthodox Easter celebration is the biggest religious festival, where people hail the moment of hope with colorful hot-air balloons as well as some spectacular but dangerous customs.

On April 29, the holy fire from the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem arrived in Athens, welcomed by a band and an honor guard. Then, millions of worshippers crowded in the church to share the candle light from the holy fire. After the mass, Greeks would set off firecrackers, some of which were powerful homemade explosives.

According to the police, a man was pronounced dead in the hospital after he was hit in the head by a flare during a show when filming in the Peloponnesian town of Kalamata.
