U.S. President's order allowed Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to request new regulations from the Federal Communications Commission to determine whether social media platforms are operating in good faith to moderate content.

Meanwhile, if users feel their posts have been restricted improperly, the order could grant users suing the social media company. But critics are afraid that the order could also make the social media companies more likely to take down false or misleading content rather than just add a disclaimer.

For years, Facebook and Twitter have competed for new features in their separate pursuit to attract millions of audiences. Sometimes, the clashes between the two tech companies appeared to draw a distinction between Facebook’s approach to moderating speech and Twitter’s.
