International Labor Organization (ILO) revealed a Youth and COVID-19: impacts on jobs, education, rights and mental well-being report to disclose that young people are affected hugely in their right of education and of learning skills. This influence is worldwide and even threatens the entire generation.

The report of IILO  indicated that around 65% of young people confirmed that the pandemic caused them to have less learning opportunities because the physical class shifted to the online class. In the survey, 50% of young people believed that their study plan would be postponed and nine percent of the young believed that they would fail from the school.

Young people’s education opportunities would be affected by living areas and the level of income. During the pandemic, learners who have lower income with limited internet access would be faced with the huge impact on learning. Learners who live in the high-income nations would have better chances to have the online class.

This pandemic also brought some uncertainties to young people’s future career. Some of them had to work during the pandemic and one-in-six of them had already lost jobs. This is the most direct impact. According to the report, nearly 42% young people have felt the decrease of income. This also increased the level of anxiety and depression.

This report calls for the urgent need to assist young people, to listen to their voice, and to seek out the best policies and programs to help them overcome this huge uncertainty.
