The results of Thailand’s first election after the military coup in 2014 were delayed since none of the parties took a lead.
It was reported that the pro-military party, Palang Pracharat party, had taken 97 lawmaker seats, while the main opposition party, Pheu Thai Party, had taken 137 seats out of 350. On the other hand, Palang Pracharat party stated that they expected to get 251 seats out of 500 in the House of Representatives, which would be a slight majority.
The delay of the announcement of election results caused suspicion and anger among Thais. What was even worse was that some reports pointed out that a few polling stations had nearly twice as many votes as the voters registered.
