Justice Bart Magunda Katureebe, aged 70, was a justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda before he was appointed as prestigious Chief Justice of Uganda from March 5, 2015, to June 20, 2020. After Justice Katureebe retired for nearly 6 months, the Supreme People’s Court of China appointed him as a member of the International Commercial Court Expert Committee of the People’s Republic of China. He was very excited about the new mission.
Established in August 2018, the International Commercial Court Expert Committee provides applicable foreign laws and entrusted international conventions to mediate international commercial disputes. The Expert Committee primarily aims to maintain the fair and effective operation of the China International Commercial Court (CICC).
There are 31 prominent scholars, knowledgeable judges, leaders of important international organizations, legal experts, and renowned lawyers in the Expert Committee. Justice Katureebe’s new four-year term is reportedly dated from December 8, 2020, to December 8, 2024.
