As the second wave of COVID-19 began, France became the epicenter of the virus in Europe. According to the statistics, there were over 50,000 cases of infections during the weekends and about 500 deaths on October 27th. As a consequence, France President Emmanuel Macron announced a national lockdown starting from October 30th.

With the second lockdown, people are only allowed to go outside for food shopping, seeing doctors, emergent family and working reasons. The lockdown would last until December 1st while the experts pointed out the duration of it should be longer. The France Prime Minister, Jean Castex, addressed that the school kids aged 6 and over would be requested to wear the masks for protecting “children, teachers, and parents.“

Several infectious disease experts warned that the explosion of COVID-19 has been out of control. Jean-François Delfraissy, the President of the Scientific Council, said the France government’s reaction to COVID-19 was too slow to preserve the previous hard efforts. He suggested that the lockdown should be continued after December 1st to bring COVID-19 under control.
