The new counterterror Laws in Senegal may regard political comments and peace demonstration as part of terrorist actions. Therefore social movement organizations and opposition groups worry if it covers too much and may lead to silencing dissent.
Currently terrorist actions as its unclearly definition are all sentenced to life imprisonment. Therefore, Human Rights Watch indicates Senegal government’s so doing may violate their citizens’ right to freedom of assembly and association.
Furthermore, the leaders from non-public sectors may face criminal liabilities according to this law.
