An agreement was established between Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru and Suriname, establishing a catastrophe reaction network and tracking satellites. They also decided to operate on reforestation at a Colombia meeting. Over 80,000 fires broke out in this year's Amazon rainforest.
"This meeting will live on as a co-ordination mechanism for the presidents that share this treasure - the Amazon," said Colombian President Iván Duque, hosting the summit in the city of Leticia. Also, the seven countries decided to bring more effort into education and enhance native peoples ' position.
The Amazon is an essential coal warehouse that slows down the rate of worldwide warming, with 60% in Brazil. According to the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe), the amount of matches between January and August 2019 is double that of the same era last year. President Bolsonaro has been making intense critique at home and abroad for attempting to safeguard the region.
