COVID-19 is still a huge threat to people around the world. Spain is facing a tremendous rise of infections cases. The new report of confirmed cases was 38,869 on Wednesday (Jan. 13) during the holiday season. Many European countries adopted curfew or stricter limitation during the holiday seasons to prevent the rise of confirmed cases. However, the government of Spain did not consider the lax limitation, which might be one of the reasons to cause the surge of coronavirus.
This surge of coronavirus has already made the extensive working load for intensive care unit (ICU) and medical workers. In order to take care of confirmed patients, some hospitals have canceled the usual surgery. Now, around 19,000 patients have been treated in Spain’s hospitals with COVID-19 and 2,849 of them were in the ICUs.
Fernando Simón, the director of the Health Ministry’s Coordination Center for Health Alerts (CCAES) stated that the new strain of the coronavirus confirmed in UK was not transmittable but more people carried this virus because of the intense interaction during Christmas. In the following days, he believed that the surge will continue. He suggested the official government adopt even stricter domestic lockdown to prevent the further infections.
The official government of Spain might need more time to consider a stricter measure to prevent the virus. Portugal is preparing to announce a new stricter lockdown this week to enforce mixture of curfew and limitation of gatherings.
