From December 17 to December 18, Spanish hunters organized a mass hunt, killing 540 deer and wild boars, in a walled-in farm in Torrebela, a tourist hunting zone in Portugal.

Scary photos were uploaded to Instagram by some hunters, showing the deer and boars dead bodies lined up, deer’s heads lifted up, blood exhausted from their bodies, while the hunters smirked and laughed in the background.

Although it is allowed to hunt individual animals, it’s believed that most of the deer in the surrounding have died. Portuguese Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF) have embarked on the investigation into the hunt.

Joao Matos Fernandes, Portuguese Environment Minister, stated on December 22 that the behavior for 16 hunters to kill 540 animals was foul and belongs to an environmental crime. Those hunters should be prosecuted. The laws need to be changed to prevent the horrible things taking place again.
