On Sep. 24th, the EU General Court, the second highest court in the European Union, rejected the European Commission's decision in 2015 that the US coffee giant escaped $33 million taxes in Netherlands, due to lack of evidence proving Starbucks benefited in tax from the illegal deal with the Netherlands.
However, facing the similar situation, the Luxembourg government and Italian carmaker Fiat Chrysler were ruled to pay back $33 million in taxes, according to EU General Court’s judgment.
The technology giant Apple has paid close attention to both cases, since it was requested to repay Ireland €13 billion in 2016. In the week of Sep. 16th, Apple and Irish government appealed against the decision.
