Storm Amelie attacked with violent winds over southern France on November 3. The storm blew down trees and electrical cables causing more than 140,000 people without electricity.
Meteo France, the French national meteorological service, recorded wind speed as strong as 163 km/h (100 mph) in the coastal area of Gironde and Landes, and 121 km/h in the famous wine-growing Bordeaux.
Scattered emergency incidents were attended by rescuers in the southwest, which included travelers’ evacuation from a campsite in Landes, roof collapse of a casino, and motorists stranded as their cars got stuck in the flood.
Besides some flight cancelation, train delays, and road closure, luckily there is no death reported in Storm Amelie. A woman in her seventies was reported missing in southern Nice during the heavy rainfall which induced a landslide.
