Walpurgis Night, which is an end-of-winter celebration in Sweden, also known as Saint Walpurgis Night and Saint Walpurgis Eve, is celebrated from the eve of April 30 to the day of May 1.
Authorities of the university town of Lund in southern Sweden are afraid of people gathering to the central park for the festival and become an epicenter for spreading the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, the city decided to dump a ton of chicken manure in its central park in an effort to deter crowds of up to 30,000 people gathering to the park for celebrating the festival.
As of April 29, according to data released from Johns Hopkins University, Sweden had 20,302 confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection with 2,462 deaths. The city authorities of Lund fear young people, especially students, will go on a picnic and drink in the park during Walpurgis Night and contracted the COVID-19.
